Following his military service in the U.S. Navy, Harper studied biology and history in college, combining his interests in natural science with cultural folklore.

His research has taken him to historical sites worldwide, from pre-Incan ruins in Bolivia to ancient Mayan cities and medieval European locations. Currently based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Harper continues his work in video game and software development while investigating unexplained phenomena and folklore. He shares these fascinating stories through his books and on Monsters and Us, exploring their impact on our understanding of the world around us.
